When a player’s ball is in a lateral water hazard the following options are available.

New owls at 6th tee

Course Superinrendent Wynand Viljoen reports that four owls have been placed in the release cage at the 6th tee box.    "They will stay with us for the next two months until they have grown enough to be released back into the wild.

"During their time at Boschenmeer they will be monitored and fed on a daily basis. Once they are strong enough the cage will be opened for them to explore the area and set their own boundaries but will will still make use of the cage as their “home”.

New stroking on the course

Vice-Captain Steph Lotz, assisted by Arno Marais, spent many hours on the course during the past two months measuring holes from each of the tees in order to ensure correct playing distances and to re-rate the stroking on the course.

The re-stroking was done according to guidelines set by the USGA, R&A and SAGA, and most members appear to be happy with the new strokes.  New boards, distance markers and tee markers have now been placed on all the holes.   In addition, bins and sand boxes on each tee have also been refurbished.

Slow play – Don’t shoot the messenger

Boschenmeer marshals need the support of members as they try to make rounds of golf more enjoyable by monitoring slow play. Bryanston Country Club Manager Paul Leishman,  writing in the in the latest issue of Tee and Sand Wedges (now available in the clubhouse), addresses the problem marshals have.

He writes that a challenging problem for golf administration is the lack of respect most golfers have for the marshals and starters employed by clubs.   ‘Undoubtedly part of the challenge is that we are in the service industry and we are employed at our clubs to serve members.’
